Quality management
By means of the EMS, everyone cooperates in the development and improvement of the company. Truth, methodology, motivation and a clear understanding of the cause/effect relationship bring about excellent results and allows for the shared satisfaction of clients, employees, shareholders and society.
U&M is a competitive and profit-making company which promotes good principles and is growing in the market where it operates, generating jobs, paying taxes, investing in social projects, satisfying its clients and rewarding its shareholders so that they can, as part of an effective circle of investment, reinvest in the development of new opportunities.
Management with Excellence
The Excellence Management System – EMS – is the standard adopted by U&M to ensure that the company, in harmony with its values, accomplishes its mission, perpetuates itself in the market where it operates, and reaches its survival goals and vision.
By using that system, all of U&M’s actions are focused on the search for excellent results, counting on the shared efforts which guarantee people’s satisfaction regarding what they want now or might desire in the future.
In order to do that, the EMS has a three-part support for the continuous improvement of results:
• Method (PDCA – Plan, Do, Check, Action).
• Logic (understanding of the Cause/Effect relationship).
• Enthusiasm (motivation)
The commitment to data, facts, statistics and truth is the basis of this three-part support. MES’s proposal is to systematize the organization and use of standards which help people perform their functions. Thus, people become more aware of what they need to do, how they do it and what results can be obtained. This standardization makes work easier, avoids reworking and improves results.
Integrated system of certifications in Occupational Health and Safety, Environment and Quality.
U&M renews its commitment to Occupational Health and Safety Management (OHSAS 18001:1999), Quality Management (ISO 9001:2000) and Environmental Management (ISO 14001:2004) every six months. Beyond these certifications,, the company is working towards receiving the ABNT NBR 16001, a certification of Social Accountability.
One of the results of this pro-active and politically correct posture was the attainment of exemplary occupational health and safety rates in each and every unit of the company.
The Bronze Medal of the Prêmio Mineiro de Qualidade (Minas Gerais’ Quality Award) in 2006 and the Silver Medal in 2007 demonstrate the continuous improvement and show that this is the right way. All of this was reinforced by U&M being amongst the 150 best companies to work for in 2006 and 2007, according to Guia Exame/Você S/A., as well as being amongst the 100 best companies to work for according to Época magazine in 2007.
Our system is guided by the Corporate Principles of Mission, Vision, Beliefs and the Policy of the Integrated Certifications System.
The natural practice of those principles constitutes U&M’s values.
